Day 20 – Happy New Year – Ac-cent-u-ate the Positive!

This morning we walked from Avalon to the Wrigley Botanical Gardens.
As I got dressed I was thinking about what we should do today. I really love the music of the 30’s and 40’s because that is what I heard in my house as a kid.  My father was a musician in the army during World [...]

Day 18 – On the Ferry to Catalina Island

We’re spending New Years on Catalina, courtesy of our friend Ed Moore – who is treating us to 3 nights at the Avalon hotel as a wedding present. He’s Marky’s longest time friend and a really good person.
Yesterday I got a message from my sister that my mother was having a “procedure” where they were [...]

Day 17 – Thanks for the Aprons Jennifer!

My friend and ballroom student, Jennifer Ross is (among other things) a master seamstress.  Her Christmas gift to us this year was specialized homemade aprons made with the image of our respective occupations.  Mine has ballroom dancers, feathers and beads. Mark’s has leather pockets and images of motorcycle racers all over it! We love them. [...]

Day 16 – History Repeating

All night I was waking up, dreaming about dancing…what the next dance will be…how to keep it interesting. I saw myself using one of the sturdy tables at the studio and that was it.  Then this morning I checked my email and there was a song request for “History Repeating” by Shirley Bassey and The [...]

Day 15 – the Bowling Dances and some technical notes…

Today I went to teach Ron and Jennifer a ballroom lesson in Kearney Mesa. Afterward we decided to head to the bowling alley and film our dance. Here’s what we came up with:

Some of my concerns about this project right now are that each day this week I’ve bumped up the [...]

Our first guest contributor – Rob Novotny!

What a great gift I got this morning, the day after Christmas while I’m still lounging in my bed at a time where I recently have been in the studio dancing. I opened my messages on FB and there he was…dancing joyfully for us all. Thanks Rob, I love this one.

Day 13 – Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer – by request!

Merry Christmas everyone! Today we had an open Freebox dance and quite a few of my dance friends came out to play…we had a great time. This one goes out to Mari Holbrooke because she requested that I dance to this song. Our group this morning was in fine form and we played a lot [...]

Day 11 – Funk soul brother – thanks Fatboy Slim…

Today I played with editing together several dances and adding music over the top. The part where Marky and I are dancing together was actually danced to this song, the other parts were not – go figure! I find it pretty amazing that it fits so well. Music is essentially all written in the same [...]

Day 10 – I like the way you move!

Ok, so I had another camera angle and was desperately trying to edit them together, but the lesson for me is keep it simple! In order to maintain my commitment I have to avoid making myself and everyone else involved (thank you Marky!) crazy.  So here it is, raw and unadorned. Dance 10.

Day 8 – Dancing on a boat in the San Diego boat parade…

Today was the San Diego boat parade which my friend Ron participates in every year. So here we are, Jennifer, Ron, Marky and me dancing on Ron’s sailboat in the boat parade.  We had more footage, but due to technical difficulties this is all I could post.  It’s quite fun to watch …
